IT ALL BEGAN WITH A COLLEGE ART CLASS.
Well, scratch that.

It all really began when Stauney and Sadie were in the high school parking lot in northern suburban Utah ranting about how unfair women were being treated in the music industry (mainly Taylor Swift of course), not even realizing at the time that they were discussing feminism.

Fast forward to when they were both attending Utah Valley University, Stauney was sitting in an Art History class, and heard the name Artemesia Gentileschi for the first time in her life… much to her surprise. As a young art history buff, she was extremely disappointed to find out a woman had been painting so early on, with such talent and passion, and she had never even heard her name.

Sadie was only a few buildings away, hearing offensive comments from male students talking about the talent of female composers, and searching for a female composer for her assignments. The name Clara Schumann came up enough to pique her interest in this strange world of music history where women were obscured, barely even being given a footnote in the long list of music masters.

One thing was clear, there were more hidden women, and they both wanted to find them. Those parking lot conversations from high school quickly turned into more agitated (clearly feminist this time) conversations, a couple of late-night texts, a lunch where the podcast name came so quickly it was magic, and after purchasing some recording equipment, More Than A Muse was born.
